The Project
docconnect briefly explained
Physicians in Ukraine and in other crisis regions are repeatedly confronted in their clinical daily routine with complex questions where a second professional opinion can be decisive. At the same time, personal networks are often limited, international contacts are difficult to access and the secure exchange of medical information is organizationally demanding.
docconnect creates a digital framework in which medical experts can collaborate in a structured way across specialties and national borders. The platform connects physicians and clinics in a decentralized network and enables professional consultations in a protected digital space.
The current focus is on collegial support for physicians in Ukraine. Consultations, case discussions and the exchange of medical expertise take place in compliance with data protection regulations via a secure cloud infrastructure. This public website serves as an entry point, information and contact platform, while the actual professional collaboration takes place in the protected area.
docconnect does not see itself as a brokerage platform in the classical sense, but as a workspace and exchange environment that bundles existing engagement, structures it and makes it sustainably usable.
docconnect is an initiative of the Rotary Club Witten-Hohenstein. It is inspired by the rotarian guiding principle “Serve above self” and lives from the international rotarian network.
Goal & orientation of docconnect
docconnect pursues the goal of sustainably enabling professional medical exchange across institutional and national borders. The focus is on collegial support for physicians in challenging care situations: “Service Above Self”.
Concrete goal
The goal of docconnect is to
- make professional expertise accessible where it is currently lacking or difficult to reach
- support physicians with complex medical questions
- meaningfully complement and strengthen existing medical networks
The current focus is on supporting physicians in Ukraine. This support is not selective, but structured and continuous.
Long-term orientation
docconnect is conceived as a permanent infrastructure, not as a time-limited project. The platform is intended to:
- grow without losing its clarity
- integrate additional specialties
- enable new collaborations with clinics and medical institutions
The basic principle remains unchanged: professional exchange in a protected, responsibly organized framework.
Attitude & self-conception
docconnect sees itself as:
- collegial
- non-commercial
- decentrally organized
- responsible in handling medical information
The project lives from the personal commitment of those involved and from the conviction that medical expertise becomes more effective through collaboration.
Differentiation
docconnect does not replace existing care structures and does not make medical decisions. It creates a space for professional assessment, orientation and exchange – as a complement to clinical responsibility on site.
Perspective
In the long term, docconnect aims to contribute to
- making medical collaboration more resilient
- strengthening international collegial networks
- enabling professional support where it is urgently needed
